About MRTYR 2025

Our Mission
“Returning to Our Roots in Maryland 2025”
We are dedicated to identifying the developmental and growth needs of our four districts. By collaborating with local communities, we aim to build vibrant neighborhoods that foster meaningful experiences, connections, and networking opportunities. Together, we strive to create a Maryland that thrives on investment and community well-being, in the hopes of bringing true bliss to all residents.

Who We Are
Marylanders Return to Your Roots 2025 is a non political individuals established and united by a shared goal: returning to Maryland County, Liberia, West Africa in December 2025. Our objective is to partner with local communities on impactful projects benefiting Harper, Barrobo, Pleebo, and Karluway districts. We seek to identify community needs and opportunities promoting a positive environment across the county.
Our aim is to execute multiple micro-projects driving social change, focusing on economic recovery through environmental sustainability, education, and growth. Partnering with local residents, we identify community needs and implement initiatives promoting social change, economic recovery, and sustainable development with the intention to establish lasting connections and contribute to Maryland County's revitalization.

A Bit of History
Located in Liberia's southeastern region, Maryland County is inhabited primarily by the Grebo and Kru people, who possess a distinct cultural and linguistic identity.
As we embrace our roots, Maryland County—often referred to as the "Land of Sunshine and Happiness"—is poised for a resurgence and renewed vitality!

Formation of MRTYR 2025
Founded by visionary philanthropist Mabel H. Watson. Marylanders Return To Your Roots 2025 is a dynamic initiative dedicated to reconnecting Marylanders across the globe with their cultural heritage and driving meaningful development in Maryland County.

The idea was born during Mabel’s visit to Liberia for President Joseph N. Boikai’s inauguration in January 2024. Inspired by the moment, she shared her vision with her partner, who enthusiastically embraced the concept. In the weeks that followed, Mabel refined her vision to mobilize Marylanders in the diaspora to lead transformative change through developmental, economic, educational, and sustainable environmental initiatives. With the support of her close friends, Henrietta Mulbah and Bernadette Cooper, the group was formally established in April 2024, and quickly launched a recruitment drive. Today, the movement proudly includes 470 committed members.
